What is retort pouch packaging?
In the context of food packaging, "retort" refers to the process of heating the packaged food to high temperatures (usually 121°C or 250°F) under pressure to kill any microorganisms and make the contents shelf-stable. This process is also known as thermal processing or sterilization.
The retort pouch packaging is a type of food flexible packaging that is designed to withstand the high-temperature sterilization process known as retorting. The purpose of a retort pouch is to provide a shelf-stable, lightweight, and compact package for ready-to-eat meals, soups, sauces, and other food products.

- Middle and inner layer: Made of aluminum foil and nylon filmsto provide a barrier against oxygen, moisture, and light.
- Innermost layer: A food-grade sealant layer retortable polypropylene (RCPP), that comes in direct contact with the food.
